A peak audience of 26 million tuned into ITV last night to see England in their first semi-final in the tournament in 28 years. The figures only taken into account those who watched the game at home and not in public venues. This is by far the highest peak audience recorded since the London 2012 closing ceremony.
England fans were left disappointed when Croatia scored the 2nd goal but rather than leaving the stadium upset and angry fans showed their support by singing ‘Don’t look back in anger’
Even though there was a lot of support towards England losing there was an astonishing amount of calls made to 999 reports of fights, disturbances and even domestic violence. Domestic violence also increases by 26 per cent across England when the national men’s team play, according to the National Centre for Domestic Violence.
That figure increases to 38 per cent when the team lose.
